How Do We Avoid Sin?

Nehemiah, in the Old Testimate, started a large task.  He recieved permission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.  He, and those helping him, worked hard.  They were focused on their work; they knew what they wanted to accomplish.  There were other people who didn't like that they were rebuilding the wall.  They sent messangers to Nehemiah"saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono."(see Nehemiah 6: 2)  Nehemiah recognized that "they thought to do me mischief."(see Nehemiah 6: 2)  He sent a reply back to them.  Nehemiah 6: 3 reads: "And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?"  He did this with all 4 of their attempts.  Nehemiah was firm in his decision; the wall was finished in just 52 days!

In our life, Satan sends invitations of temptations to us all the time.  How do we respond?  I have learned from "True to the Faith," which is a gospel refferance manual, a few tips on how to avoid sin.  These come from the subject of temptation.  These are 7 suggestions.

Center your life on the Savior.    If we are thinking about Christ, then we aren't thinking about sin.

Pray for strength.    Romans 8:31 reads: "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"

Study the scriptures daily.    Great power can come as we read the scriptures.

Fill your life with goodness.    The more we invite God into our lives, the less Satan can be there.

Avoid tempting places and situations.    If we don't even get tempted, we won't sin.

Strive to influence others for good.    As we focus on others, we forget things that hold us back.

Never hesitate in your decisions to withstand temptation.    Make the decision now, so when temptation comes we don't even have to make the choice.  It has already been made.
