Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount taught, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"(Matthew 7: 7-11). The power and importance of prayer is just one of many things that the Lord Has taught us. A question that I would like to bring up for us to ask ourselves is: do I believe Him? There is a difference between believing in Him and believing Him. Do we believe Him?
Believing Him is important. It means that we have confidance that He will fulfill His promises. It means we follow what He asks us to do. It is more than talking and thinking, it is doing.
Here is a scriptural example, it is Mattew 7: 21. "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." Do we believe that? Do we believe Him? If we do, what are we doing?
Here is another scriptural example, it is Doctrine and Covenants 130: 20-21. "There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated— And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated." Do we really believe Him? If we do, what are we doing? Is there anything that stops us from trying our best to live all of His commandments?
