"A Foundation Whereon If Men Build They Cannot Fall"

Life is hard.  Everyday seems to have its own set of challenges.  Some storms of life are little showers that pass relatively quickly.  Some storms of life are tsunamis that could destroy almost everything.  With a pretty much unpredictable forecast if events in life, how can we not get washed away?  The answer is Christ!  He is the unchanging solid foundation we can build on!
Helaman 5: 12 reads, "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."

How do we build on Christ?  We build on Christ by learning His words and doing them.  Jesus said in Matthew 7: 24-27, "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

One very important way we learn Christ's words is by reading the scriptures.  From reading the scriptures, we will learn the things that we need to do to bring our lives in closer harmony with His teachings.  Learning and knowing is good, but to actually build on Christ, we must then act.  When we act on the things the Spirit teaches us, we change.  We change and become better.  We come closer to Christ.  With this change, our desires to do evil decrease.  We are strengthened and are able to resist the persistent and even powerful temptations that the adversary throws at us.

If we don't act, then we don't build on the solid foundation.  The storms will come, and we will not be able to stand.

If we build on Christ, the everyday challenges of life can be overcome!  We will be able to say as Paul in Philippians 4: 13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
