Christ taught us how we can know if a prophet is true. Matthew 7: 15-20 reads, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
You can know for yourself that Joseph Smith was called by God to be a prophet, and that through him the same church that Christ set up while He was on the earth has been restored. You can know this by reading and praying about the Book of Mormon and attending church. Taste of the fruits for yourself and see if it is not good.
I know for myself that is is good. Joseph Smith was visited by God the Eternal Father and His Son Jesus Christ. The fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ is on the earth; it is found in Christ's church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
