Luke 18: 18, 20-23, "And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
We have commandments so that we can be happy. They protect us. They are given to us for a reason, and that reason is not to make us miserable. As a missionary, we have quite a few rules. Some of the rules we have may seem small, and others may seem limiting. I know that they are all there to help us. If followed, they allow us to have the Spirit of the Lord more abundantly.
This works with all rules and commandments. We can gain a knowledge of how good they are by living them. Try living it, see what it will do for you.
I know that God gives us commandments because He wants us to be happy and become like Him. I know that Satan tempts us to be disobedient because he wants us to be miserable and become like him. It is that simple. Who do we want to become like?
